Gerald D. O'Connell, 77 of ?? S. ?? Street, Manitowoc, died Monday morning, January 22, 1990 at Holy Family Medical Center, Manitowoc.


Funeral services will be 10:30 am Thursday at Pfeffer Funeral Home. Presiding the service will be Rev. John Conrad with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. Otto Oas VFW Post ?? will hold military rites at the graveside.


Mr. O'Connell was born June 5, 1918 at Maple Grove, Wisconsin, son of the late George and Frances Cavanaugh O'Connell. He married the former Phyllis Cox on January 26, 1946 in Manitowoc. Mr. O'Connell was employed with ?? Agricultural ?? of Manitowoc from ?? until his retirement in ??. He was a member of Shoto Conservation Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie ?? of Manitowoc and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Mr. O'Connell served overseas in World War II with the United States Army 3rd Armoured Division from 1941 until 1945. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.


Survivors include his wife, Phyllis M. O'Connell of Manitowoc; two sons and daughters-in-law, Patrick and Marie O'Connell of Fargo, North Dakota, Daniel and Molly O'Connell of Manitowoc; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie and Pat Arpin of Watertown, Wisconsin, Bridget and Larry Ziarnik of Green Bay, Colleen and Steve Weber of Manitowoc; a son-in-law, Steve ?? of Dubuque, Iowa; a brother, George (Harold) O'Connell of Pocatella, Idaho; eight grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends survive. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Connors and three brothers, Sherman, Norbert and Clifton.


Friends may call at Pfeffer Funeral Home, 5 pm to 8 pm Wednesday. Prayer service will be held at 7:30 pm led by Deacon William Klein.
