August K. Oestreich, 68, retired shipyards worker, died last night at his home, 1301 South 10th street, after a brief illness.


He was born August 24, 1876, in the town of Manitowoc and for many years was employed at the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Co. yards and in later life he worked for the Manitowoc Lumber Co.


Survivors are his wife, the former Lily Ladwig; one daughter, Mrs. Elmer Gass, city; three sons, Edwin and Howard, city and Lt. (jg) Carl, of the Merchant Marine; two brothers, Richard, city, and Walter, Manitowoc, route 2; three sisters, Mrs. Anna Holtz, city; Mrs. Karl Haese, Reedsville, and Mrs. Otto Haese, Burbank, Cal.


Mr. Oestreich was a member of the board of trustees of the First German Evangelical Lutheran church for 15 years.


The body will be at the Urbanek, Wattawa and Schlei funeral home from Friday noon until 10 a.m. Saturday morning when it will be taken to the church for services Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. L. H. Koeninger will officiate.
