Walter L. Olson, age 86, of 1520 S. 13th St., Manitowoc, died Thursday, May 22, 1997, at the Manitowoc Health Care Center.


Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 1997, at Wesley United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Jay Smoke with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.


He was born August 9, 1910, in Alma Center, Wis., son of the late Martin and Wilhelmina Helwig Olson. He was educated in Manitowoc graduated with the Class of 1927 from Lincoln High School. He was the Senior Buyer in the Purchasing Department at Mirro Aluminum Company for 48 1/2 years, retiring in 1975. He married Loraine Heise March 27, 1935, in Manitowoc. She preceded him in death in 1993. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Starting as a boy, Walter was active in the Presbyterian and Methodist Choirs for 77 years. He was a member of the church board and Chairman of the Trustees of Wesley United Methodist Church for six years. He was the District Commissioner of Boy Scouts and also a member of the National Guard. Walter was an avid square dancer.


Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law; Joan Olson Sherwin, Stockton, Calif.; Doreen and Jeffrey Pasco, Walnut Creek, Calif.; Sharon and Jeffrey Jensen, Concord, Calif.; two brothers; Lloyd Olson, Sr., Manitowoc; Ivan Olson, Manitowoc; three granddaughters; Elizabeth Jensen, Concord, Calif.; Sarah Pasco and Rachel Pasco, both of Walnut Creek, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Loraine, two brothers, five sisters-in-law, and two brothers-in-law.


Relatives and friends may call at the Jens Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church.


Memorials may be made to the Wesley United Methodist Church.


The Jens Funeral Home and Crematory, Manitowoc, is assisting the family.

By candlelight, at 7 o'clock this evening in the parsonage of the Wesley M.E. church, Miss Loraine A. Heise and Walter L. Olson will exchange their wedding vows before the Rev. Hubert Feldt. The bride, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Heise, 1223 Philippen street, will be attended by her sister, Miss Lillian, as maid of honor at the wedding, and Mr. Olson, whose mother is Mrs. Martin Olson, 1219 Huron street, will have as his best man his brother Ivan. The bride's suit is of pale green silk, and her accessories are black. She will wear a shoulder corsage of gardenias. The suit which her sister will wear is of tan silk, and her accessories will be brown. She will have a shoulder corsage of roses.


There will be a reception at the home of the bride's parents after the ceremony, and dinner will be served at 8 o'clock. Only the immediate families will attend. Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Olson will come from Sheboygan for the wedding. Mr. and Mrs. Olson will leave for a short honeymoon trip, and after April 1 they will be at home at 818 South 15th street. Mr. Olson is employed in the advertising department in the offices of the Aluminum Goods Manufacturing company. His bride, before her marriage, was employed in the accounting department of that company.
