Voida P. Olson, County Board Member Dies


MISHICOT—Voida P. Olson, 63, of Mishicot, a former alderman of Manitowoc's old Sixth Ward and a Manitowoc County Board supervisor, died at 8:45 a.m. Friday at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc, where he had been a patient since Wednesday. He had been in ill health for several months.


Mr. Olson, a veteran of World War I, has been active in city and county politics and in county organizations all his life.


He was born Aug. 8, 1897, at St. Nazianz, son of the late Hans and Carrie Heinzen Olson. He came to Manitowoc in 1919 and married Leonore Dickert Aug. 24, 1921. They resided at Manitowoc. He served in the Army during World War I, receiving an honorable discharge when the war was over.


Former Alderman

Mr. Olson was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mishicot. During his residence at Manitowoc, he ran his own trucking company for a number of years and then was employed for a short time at Mirro Aluminm Co., Manitowoc. During World War II he was employed at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc.


He was an alderman in the old Sixth Ward of Manitowoc from 1938 to 1942 and a member of the County Board of Supervisors since April, 1957. As a supervisor, he served on the County Fair Committee and the County Industrial Development Committee of the County Board.


He was a former deputy sheriff for Manitowoc County and was a member of the Manitowoc County Sheriff and Deputy Assn. He was also a member of the Izaak Walton League for many years.


Prior to his death, he was president of the Manitowoc County Tavern League for which organization he served as secretary for 10 years. He was a member of Drews-Bleser American Legion Post 88 of Manitowoc and also a member of the Lions Club at Mishicot.


List Survivors

He was president of the New Industrial Development Assn. for Mishicot, a member of Manitowoc County Fish and Game Protective Assn., the Mishicot Sportsman's Club, the Larrabee Sportsman's Club of Mishicot and a member of the West Shore Sportsman's Club Inc. of Two Creeks and Two Rivers.


Two brothers preceded him in death.


He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. John Utecht, of Bethesda, Md., and nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mishicot, the Rev. David Worgull officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.


Friends may call at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc, after 3 p.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Monday when the casket will be moved to the church, where the body may be viewed from 11 a.m. until the time of service.


Memorial donations may be sent to St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mishicot, or to the Manitowoc County Unit of the American Cancer Society, 1010 S. Seventh St., Manitowoc.

The marriage of Miss Lenora, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Dickert, and V.P. Olson took place at the Lutheran church at 4 o'clock yesterday, the Rev. Machmiller officiating. The ceremony was attended by only immediate relatives and was followed by a wedding dinner at the bride's home. The couple will reside here.
