Funeral Services For Late Capt. Samuel Olson Held Today

Funeral services for the late Capt. Samuel Olson, who died suddenly at his home Friday night, took place this afternoon from the late residence, 1214 New York Avenue, with interment at Evergreen cemetery.

The passing of Capt. Olson claims one of the last of the early day lake captains in Manitowoc. He commanded the vessels Prentise, Markham, Jim Sheriffs and many others.

The services this afternoon were in charge of the Rev. Bulley of the St. Paul's M.E. church.

Stricken with a heart attack as he reclined on a couch at the family home, 1314 New York Avenue last night, at 9:30, Capt. Samuel Olsen, 77, veteran retired lake captain, passed away suddenly.

Born in Bamble, Norway, September 12, 1854, he came to America sixty years ago and starting following the lakes. He soon became master of the lake vessels and continued until old age and failing health, together with the decline of the sailing vessel brought his retirement from active work a few years ago. The deceased was married here to Anna Michelson, who died in 1923.

One sister, Catherine, who made her home with her brother here, a brother, Amund of Sawyer, Wis., and two nephews, Walter Barrie of Hollywood, Calif., and Arthur Barrie of this city survive.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the home, Rev. Bulley of the St. Pauls M.E. Church officiating. Interment was in Evergreen.
