James Anderson West was a Private in Company K, Shelby's Regt., 1st Reg. Lt. B.F. Gordon commanding. He was mortally wounded in the Second Battle of Springfield on 8 Jan 1863.

Although there isn't any record of James West being buried in the National Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri, there are many "Unknown" soldier markers in the cemetery and one of them could be his but there is no way of knowing which one it is.
