Poseyville News dated March 7, 1941: James Alfred Pierce, 79, highly esteemed Poseyville resident, succumbed Friday night at 10 o'clock following a long illness. Mr. Pierce had been bedfast for the past two and one-half years following a stroke of paralysis in 1938, and had been cared for in the home of Mr. & Mrs. John Oller, where death occurred. The deceased was a retired rural mail carrier having retired in 1923. Pierce was a native of Kentucky but had resided here for many years. Funeral services were held at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the last residence here. Rites were in charge of the Rev. T.R. Roberts, pastor of the Poseyville Methodist church, and interment was in the Poseyville cemetery. Nearest surviving relatives are his wife, Zona; a son, Dr. O.J. Pierce of Anderson, and a grandson, James Pierce. of Ft. Branch.
