Robert E. Allen, age 66, of Duchesne, passed away suddenly Fri., July 27, 2012, at his home of an apparent heart attack.
He was born May 30, 1946, in Murray, to Ronald E. and Ruth Rasmussen Allen, the youngest son of seven children.
Bob attended school in Draper and played football and church basketball. He graduated from Jordan High School in Sandy. He joined the US Air Force in 1965 and served as a cook in Minot, N.D. He was honorably discharged in January of 1969.
He married his high school sweetheart, Penny Osborne, Jan. 14, 1966. They had two children and later divorced. Penny died April 4, 2012.
He unexpectedly found the love of his life, Irene Thatcher Brooksby, when he was set up on a blind date. He was completely smitten and they married, Nov. 1, 1997. They had many years together and she passed away in January of 2007.
Bob thoroughly enjoyed riding motorcycles, participating in the "Widow Maker" in Draper. He also was a volunteer member of the Duchesne Fire Department and former president of the Lion's Club.
The hard work ethic taught to Bob growing up proved itself through the many jobs he had. He worked for Loughgrens Manufacturing helping build Jet Travel Trailers and making deliveries. The stories he told about he and his brother, Mel, teaching themselves how to drive truck while driving truck are well known throughout Duchesne. In January of 1974, he and Mel moved to Duchesne and formed Allen Brothers Trucking and they began to haul crude oil. He loved the trucks. He drove until 2007, then helped with repairs and dispatching.
