Mr. Gailord J. Omer, 87, formerly of 1518 S. 12th St., Manitowoc, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 20, at Shady Lane Nursing Home, Manitowoc.


Christian Science services will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.


Mr. Omer was born Oct. 23, 1892, at Jewell, Kansas, son of the late George and Harritte (sic) Ayers Omer. He attended schools at Kansas and later at Palitine, Iowa. He attended Morning Side College, Sioux City, Iowa, graduating in 1917. Mr. Omer was a World War I Navy First Class Pharmacist Mate entering service Dec. 12, 1917, and being discharged June 15, 1919. He married Helen Wangberg June of 1919. She preceded him in death in 1961. He then married Ida Marquardt Simerson May of 1964 at Manitowoc. She preceded him in death in 1977. Mr. Omer was sales manager for Sanitary Foods Company, St. Paul, Minn., retiring in 1956. He was civil defense director at Manitowoc from 1958 to 1961. He was a member of First Church of Christian Science; V.F.W.; North Shore Masonic Lodge, No. 437; Manitowoc Eastern Star, No. 196, and a 32nd Degree Mason.


Survivors include three sisters, Miss Marie Omer and Miss Mina Omer, both of Glendale, Calif., and Mrs. Sy (Ada) Griewe of Grinnell, Iowa, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.


Friends may call at Jens Funeral Home from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday until the time of services. Masonic memorial services will be held 8 p.m. Thursday.
