Hertha M. O'Neil, age 94, a resident of Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc, died Tuesday morning, April 3, 2007, at the center.


She was born July 1, 1912, in the town of Liberty, daughter of the late August and Emma (Pingel) Schnell. On Nov. 21, 1935, she married George O'Neil in the town of Liberty. He preceded her in death July 13, 1967. The couple farmed in the town of Liberty until their retirement when she moved to Manitowoc in 1979. Hertha was a member of the Pine River Husslers Homemakers and Cleveland Senior Citizens.


Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: Gerald and Beatrice O'Neil, Newton; two daughters and sons-in-law: Lorraine and Richard Liermann, Manitowoc; Irene and Carl Schwantes, Valders; seven grandchildren: Sara (Doug) Dunham, Fall Creek; Sheila (Matt) Eisert, Mukwanago; Sandra (Erik) Kohlman, Manitowoc; Dave (Sheila) Liermann, Manitowoc; Dan (Annette) Liermann, Manitowoc; Laura (Robert) Frohmader, Kendall; Constance Schwantes, Valders; 16 great-grandchildren: Emily, Allison and Marissa Dunham; Genaveve Eisert; Tyler and Trevor Kohlman; Alexa, Devon, Caleb and Meredith Liermann; Nolan and Joseph Liermann; Cody, Samuel, Erin and Cameron Frohmader; and two step-great-grandchildren: Michael (Sarah) Hackmann and Marie Hackmann. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.


She was also preceded in death by an infant son: Daniel O'Neil, and a sister and brother-in-law: Milda and Ervin Wollersheim.


Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007, at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be the Revs. Robert Kujawski and Stephen Melso, with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.


The family will greet relatives and friends at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc, from 10 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007, until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Hertha's name to Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc Lutheran High School, or a charity of your choice.


The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.


Hertha enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved to play cards and work on plastic canvas projects. Hertha will be sadly missed by all who knew her.


The family wishes to thank the staff at Shady Lane Fourth Floor, and Whitetail Estates 2, for their compassionate care and support given to Hertha and her family.
