MAN SHOT TO DEATH, AUTHORITIES QUIZ WIFE

Robert Orr Shot in Home Near Collins

Manitowoc County Sheriff''s men were conferring today with District Attorney, Robert Koutnik on possible charges against a rural county woman whose 38 year old husband was found shot to death in their home early today. Dr. Theodore Teitgen, County Coroner, identified the victim as Robert Orr, a night shift worker at the Brillion Iron Works. Orr was pronounced dead in an ambulance bringing him to a hospital here from the farm home the family rented in the Town of Eaton, 2 1/2 miles southwest of Collins, near the Manitowoc-Calumet County line. The home is owned by Elmer Draheim.

Manitowoc County traffic police received a call from Orr's 29 year old wife, Cora, the mother of three, shortly after 6 am, reporting that her husband had been shot. When the sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene they found Orr lying face up on the kitchen floor with two 22 caliber bullet wounds in his chest.

Coroner Teitgen quoted the woman as saying that her husband arrived home intoxicated from Brillion some time earlier and began abusing her. He normally works until midnight at the Iron Works.

The coroner said a 22 caliber pistol was found on the kitchen table and that Orr had apparently been shot in the adjoining dining room, stumbled into the kitchen and collapsed on the floor. Sheriff's men and the district attorney were continuing their questioning of the woman who has two small children at home, 2 and 3 years of age. An older child is reportedly living with grandparents in Iowa. The younger children were temporarily being cared for by the County Public Welfare Dept.

The family reportedly moved in the area in July from Eagle River, but had also previously lived in New Holstein and Green Bay areas.
