George Young Jr. was the son of George Young Sr and his first wife Elizabeth McCrary; he was the fourth of Seven children. His parents were first cousins. HIs father George Sr. fought in the Revolution, in 1782, in Col Livy's South Carolina regiment, from April to June 1782, in the final months of the war in South Carolina.

George Jr was born in 1788, in Laurens county SC. He married twice. His first wife was Mary Duckett, the daughter of James Odell Duckett and Sarah Dora Whitmore. They married in 1810; he was 21, she was 18. George and Mary had 12 children, before Mary, in 1831. George remarried to Mary's cousin Ailsey Permelia Duckett, a year later, in 1832; George was her 2nd husband. They had 5 more children.

George was a slave owner; in the 1840 census he had 44 slaves. When he died in 1843, without a will, he left a rather large estate, valued over $19,000.00, equivalent to about $640,000 in 2020.

His widow Ailsey never remarried; she died in 1880. In the 1860 census, in South Carolina, she is shown having an estate valued at $27,500 [about $850,000 in 2020], and also a slave owner, with an overseer in her household. After the civil war, after much of South Carolina had been destroyed, she emigrated with many of her family members, to Howard County Arkansas. In 1870 she's living there with her son Richard Owens.
