FORMER LOCAL MAN MURDERED IN WEST

HUGO OTTO IS KILLED BY A BLOW ON HEAD

Message Indicates He Was Victim of Robbers

Hugo Otto, a former Manitowoc man, a brother of Arthur Otto, N. Eleventh street and half brother to Edward Sommers, Park street, this city, is reported dying in a hospital at Ellensburg, Wash., from injuries which he suffered when attacked and beaten by robbers.

No further details were given in the telegram which relatives received last night from Ellensburg, signed by Roy Tuttle, a resident of that city. Police authorities here have communicated with officials at Ellensburg asking that investigation be made and details furnished.

The message said that Otto had been the victim of an assault and was in the county hospital with his head caved in and no chance for recovery. The police here asked for detailed information but up to 2 o'clock this afternoon had received no reply from Ellensburg.

Left Here in 90's.

Hugo Otto left here thirty-two years ago and has never returned since. He kept in touch with members of his family up to ten years ago but since that time no word has been received and it was believed that he was dead until the message last night.

Otto is about 55 years of age, it is said, and it is not known whether he had been a resident of Ellensburg or was visiting there at the time of the attack. It is not known here that he is married.

A young man named Hugo Otto, better known as Hugo Sommer's, while employed at Windiate's barn last Saturday, hauling hay in the loft with a large fork, received a very painful wound. While the fork was being operated, the rope gave way, and the heavy iron struck Hugo near the right shoulder inflicting a wound about 6 inches long and breaking one of his ribs.
