CHARLES OTTO

(1876 • 1951)

Body of Retired Farmer Found Hanging in Tree

Charles F. Otto, 74, of route 4, Manitowoc, was found Monday afternoon hanged in a tree adjoining his home, four and a half miles west of Manitowoc Rapids. A neighbor boy, Curtis Wiegert, 16, saw the body as he rode nearby on a tractor. Dr. Theodore Teitgen, county coroner, termed the death a suicide.

Mr. Otto, a retired farmer, had been despondent about ill health during the past year. He was born in 1878 in Germany and came to this country at the age of 15. Prior to his retirement in 1941, he operated a farm in the Town of Manitowoc Rapids. In 1912, he married the former Miss Minnie Mundt. She died in 1949.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Thursday at the Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, Rev. Paul Blaufuss officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

Survivors are two sons, Russell, of route 4, Manitowoc and Ferris of route 5, Manitowoc; half brother, Albert Nagunst of Hamlin, Kansas and three grandchildren.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 pm Wednesday.
