Mrs. H.B. Owsley, 70, a native of Manitowoc, died of a heart attack Monday evening at home, Charlotte, N.C.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Harry and Bryant Funeral Home, Charlotte. The body will be brought to Manitowoc for burial at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Evergreen Cemetery. The Rev. William Harvey will officiate.
Mrs. Owsley, nee Harriet Kress, was born Sept. 17, 1892, daughter of the late H.G. and Genny Reed Kress. She attended Manitowoc schools and was a kindergarten teacher at Manitowoc for several years before marriage to H. B. Owsley in October of 1913 at Little Rock, Ark. Mrs. Owsley had been housemother for many years at Chapel Hills University in North Carolina.
Mrs. Owsley may be remembered as the daughter of Postmaster H.G. Kress and a granddaughter of the first president of the Village of Manitowoc, Judge George Reed. Reed Avenue at Manitowoc was named after him. The Owsleys spent a part of the summer at Manitowoc for many years.
Surviving are her husband, a son, Richard, of Charlotte, a daughter, Mrs. Kathleen Patterson of Washington, D.C., a sister, Mrs. Herbert Peege, of East Troy, Wis., and four grandchildren.
Friends may call at Mittnacht Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 10 a.m. until noon Friday.

Announcement of Marriage of Miss Harriet Kress at Little Rock, Ark., Comes as Surprise to Friends
Married at Little Rock, Ark., on Saturday, Oct. 4th, 1913, Miss Harriet Reed Kress of Manitowoc, Wis., to Mr. Harry B. Owseley(sic) of Little Rock, the Rev. Dr. Smith of the First Presbyterian Church officiating.
This brief announcement received by friends of the bride yesterday came as a complete surprise to friends, not even the most intimate friends of Miss Kress having received an intimation of the approaching event. Friends will await the coming of Mr. and Mrs. Owseley who will visit the city following a two weeks' honeymoon. Miss Kress departed two weeks ago for a visit with her brothers in Arkansas and Oklahoma and while there a friendship formed a year ago when she met Mr. Owseley was renewed and led to the happy culmination announced by the cards received yesterday.
The bride is a daughter of Postmaster and Mrs. H. G. Kress and one of the popular society girls of the city, having been prominent in social circles of the city in which she moved. Born in this city, she had spent her life in the city graduating from the local schools and later attending higher educational institutions. Miss Kress is descended from one of the oldest families of the city, her grandfather, the late George Reed, having been the first lawyer to practice his profession in this state. He was also the first president of the village of Manitowoc and was president of the Wisconsin Railway company. Mr. Owseley is associated with the Etna Powder Co. at Little Rock where the couple will make their future home. A large circle of friends will tender congratulations and a welcome to Mr. and Mrs. Owseley upon their arrival here.
