The fastest runner in her elementary school, Jackie also loved to dance and roller skate. At the age of 12, she and her mother left Los Angeles and moved first to Visalia, then to Hanford, CA. While attending Hanford High School, Jackie was a talented soprano in the acapella choir.
A lifetime love affair began when Jackie, as a Hanford High cheerleader, met Jack Lapp, the center and linebacker for the Hanford High Bullpups. They were married on June 10, 1950. The Lapps built their life in Hanford and raised three children.
Jackie was always giving back to the community. The sorority she helped to found (Theta Tau Theta, Lambda Alpha Chapter) raised money for the Bearskin Meadows Children's Diabetic Camp. She also walked neighborhoods to raise money for the American Heart Association and March of Dimes.
In her work life, Jackie was employed by the Hanford telephone company, Lacy Milling, Bank of America, Turner's Feed Mill, and for Doctors Kerr and Christiansen. A little known fact about Jackie is that in the 1960's Jackie knew all the names of her beloved Green Bay Packers. She also liked to scream and cheer at the motorcycle races in Hanford. Jack and Jackie made many memorable trips to Las Vegas with friends and family; she really enjoyed the horse races and always bet on the "grey" horses.
Jackie's four great loves were dancing, reading, crafting, and spending time at the coast. Jack and Jackie were famous for their smooth dance moves and danced for many years with the Hanford Jolly Bunch. She was also a voracious reader and loved to make things with her hands, from carpet purses to knitted dish clothes. But far and away, the one thing that made Jackie most happy was the sound and smells of the ocean. Her favorite spot was Leffingwell Cove in Cambria where she would sit for hours watching the waves crash against the rocks. Over the years the Lapps owned homes near the ocean in Los Osos and later in Cayucos where Jackie felt most content and at peace.
