Basil married June Moore on October 12, 1940. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served his country during World War II. After he returned home from the war, he went to work at Motor Specialties before taking a job with General Telephone in 1946. He was a member at First Baptist Church of Spring Lake, and he looked forward to family gatherings for holidays and special occasions. He passed away, and was survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, June; his sons, Robert (Joyce) Bird of Muskegon, Basil Jr. (Linda) Bird of Rothbury; daughters, Iris (George) Stuart of WV, Wendy Bird of Muskegon, Julie (Bill) Turpin of Fruitport; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Diane. A funeral service was held at First Baptist Church of Spring Lake with Pastor Doug Bytwerk officiating.
