Born in Newark, Roy was the son of Frank F. and Anna Groener. He proudly served in the United States Army after graduating from high school. Upon his separation, Roy worked for Prudential for over 25 years and also served on the Pequannock Township Council for 4 years. A member of the First Reformed Church, Roy served as an Elder there and later as Head Usher. His family was very important to him and Roy and his wife, Dorothy, attended every one of their grandchildren's events.
Roy is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his son, David and his wife Kathleen; his daughters, Kathy Sturla and her husband Bob; Judy Nixon and her husband Bob; and Sue Halliday and her husband Mark; his brothers, Franklin Ruck and Herb Groener; 11 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 10 am Thursday, August 2 at the First Reformed Church, Pompton Plains. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the M. John Scanlan Funeral Home, Pompton Plains.
