SEATTLE -- Velda (Robinson) [Jorgensen] Aarestad, 81, a resident of Hoquiam since 1976 and formerly of Elma, died Wednesday at Swedish Hospital.
She was born January 4, 1909, in Touchet near Walla Walla to Kirk and Clara Robinson. She had worked as a cook in restaurants in Elma and Aberdeen.
She also operated a shop where she taught ceramics for 1o years. She enjoyed crocheting, house plants, painting and was a member of the AARP.
In 1965, she married Elvin Aarestad in Blaine. He survives at the family home in Hoquiam.
Other survivors include four daughters, Dona Doreen Miller and Pat L. Hockett, both of Hoquia, Sandra JoAnn Palmer of Oregon City, Ore. and Linda Louise Aulbuch of Portland, Ore.; one son, Lorin D. Jorgensen; four step-daughters, Betty Pitts and Bonnie Davis, both of Wenatchee, Rita Simpson of Leavenworth and Eunice Lyon of Turlock, Calif.; one stepson, Murray Aarestad of Boise, Idaho; two sisters, Bonnie Robinson of Kalispell, Mont., and June Eygabroad of McCleary; and one brother, Lyle Robinson of Tacoma.
A brother, Van Robinson, and a stepson, Ray Aarestad, died before her.
A funeral is set for 2 p.m. Monday at the Whiteside Chapel in Elma.
