Tributes of Respect to His Memory.
The funeral of Thomas C. Butler, the once famous oarsman, took place yesterday at St Joseph's church, Chambers St. It was one of the largest funerals that has been seen. In the West End for many years, more than, 80 Carriages being in line and occupied by people representing the various walks of life who had been Impressed by his manliness and all round good qualities. The police department was well represented, Mr. Butler's business associates, by whom he was held in high esteem, were present in round numbers; oarsmen covering the various epochs In the sport since the days the deceased was the beau Ideal of Boston rowing men, and last but not least his late associates from the assessors' department at city hall were on hand to pay his memory a last tribute. Friday and Saturday night hundreds of friends and admirers viewer! The body at the home of his brother, James Butler, 32 Auburn St. West end. The street was blocked when the body was borne out by loving hands at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The coffin was almost hidden beneath magnificent floral Rev Fr. Kelleher performed the rites for "(he dead, which were very Impressive ' after which the body was borne to its last resting place, at Mt Auburn, where It was laid beside ,his wife. The pallbearers were George Faulkner, the veteran oarsman, "Jack Regan also an Old West F. C. oarsman Edward B Daley, Dan Breen, the oarsman and brother-in-law of the deceased Frank Unine,. Jeremiah Coveny, Edward Moore, Daniel McCarthy and Henry H. Doherty . Among those present were James F. Ormonci; who was a famous referee, in Butler's palmy days; John (Sculley) Cullen. George McGahey, Capt Cain of division 4, Capt Brown, Sergt Boyer, officers Daniel Houghton, Patrick McGahey, Maurice Quinn, a close friend of the deceased: Jack Breen, Martin M. Lomasney, Joseph Lomasney Pressident D. J. Kiley of the common Connell, Edward B. Daly, Jerry Griffin, Dick Welch, Frank Kelly, Jake Donovan, Billy Howard, George Knight, Benjamin Fallon, John B.
