Byron Lansdon Adkins, 82, of Crossville, passed away March 25, 2004. Funeral services were conducted March 27 from the chapel of Hood Funeral Home, with Bro. Mike McCoy officiating with a Masonic service also being held. Graveside committal services were conducted March 28 at Green Acres Memory Gardens.
Mr. Adkins was born Oct. 4, 1921 in Fentress County, the son of James Wheeler and Alpha Reagan Adkins.
He was a retired bus driver for Greyhound and a Navy veteran, having served our country during World War II. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge #477 for more than 50 years and had held several positions in the lodge during that time with one being past master.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce C Norris Adkins of Crossville; sons, Russell Norris and Chad Norris, both of Jamestown; daughter, Regina Baltimore of Jamestown; brothers and sister-in-law, Harris and Helen Adkins of Kingsport and Kenneth Adkins of Clarkrange; sisters and brothers-in-law, Gerry and Elred Taylor of Jamestown and Hallie and George Elmore of Crossville; and grandchildren, Cassie, Tiffany and Kelly Norris, Cody Baltimore and Colton and Kelsey Norris.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Luther Elmore.
Pallbearers were Jim Taylor, Joe Melton, Joe Inman, Matt Beaty, Steve Ramsey and Dewey Cook.
Hood Funeral Home and Crematory, LLC was in charge of the arrangements.
