Ruth Arden Riddle, 72, of Gaylord, died Saturday, June 5, 2004. Ruth was born in Grayling on Aug. 23, 1931. She was raised in Vanderbilt and spent most of her life in the Gaylord area. Ruth had many interests and during her lifetime she held many various positions with businesses including Otsego Memorial Hospital and Hogan's Jewelers. She also was the former owner of the old Dunkin Restaurant. She was a senior dispatcher for the Otsego County Sheriff's Dept., retiring in 1996 after 14 years of service. She was a member of the Otsego Lake Baptist Church before it dissolved. Ruth enjoyed painting and loved to camp, hunt, and fish in the Upper Peninsula. She especially loved the Paradise, Mich. area. Ms. Riddle was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Riddle and Hazel (Detzler) Wallington; stepfather, Peter Wallington; and brother, Kline Riddle. She is survived by her companion of more than 40 years, Phyllis Goslow; eight half sisters, Bevery Brado of Vanderbilt, Dorothy Lee Nitkin of Texas, Ethel Vaughn of California, Ellen Steinhoff of Bay City, Lela Dinnal of Saginaw, Heather Gedye of Nevada, Renee Thomas of Tawas City, Barbara Miller of New York; and her dog, Buffy. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 8 at 2 p.m. from the Nelson Funeral Home in Gaylord, the Rev. Frederick Nose officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Vanderbilt. Visitation at the Nelson Funeral Home was Monday from noon to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday beginning at noon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Riddle family for a headstone for Ruth, through the Nelson Funeral Home, PO Box 1548, 135 N. Center Ave., Gaylord, MI 49734.
