Walter W. Johannes, master mechanic for years at Plant No. 1 of the Aluminum
Goods company, at Two Rivers, died Monday night of a heart attack at his home,
1918 Jefferson street, in that city. He retired from his position in December,
1942, because of failing health.
He was born in the town of Two Rivers in 1882 and when a young man learned the
machinist trade at the old pail factory in Two Rivers. Later when Joseph Koenig
established an aluminum plant Mr. Johannes was one of the first mechanics. A
short while later he went to Kewaunee to work as a mechanic at the Leyse aluminum
company and in 1908 he returned to Two Rivers to become master mechanic at the
aluminum firm.
Mr. Johannes was a member of the Lions club for more than 20 years and the Two
Rivers lodge of Elks. He was a member of the 25 year club, the Algomao (sic)
Foremen's club of the Aluminum Goods company. He was active in the Boy Scout
movement, serving on that committee for the Lions club.
On August 30, 1928 Walter Johannes married Mary Schleger of Two Rivers. She
survives with a daughter, Mrs. Sylvester Belz of Two Rivers; a son Leslie of
Glendale, California and a brother, August Johannes of Howards Grove.
Funeral services will be held in Two Rivers Saturday afternoon at 1:30 from the
Beduhn funeral home and at 2 o'clock from St. John's Lutheran church with the
Rev. W. G. Haase officiating. Interment will be in Holy Cross cemetery. The body
may be viewed at the funeral home from 2 p.m. Thursday to the time of services.
