John McGee was born in Canada. He and his wife (Matilda) Julia moved to Minnesota in 1884. They had twelve kids with eight surviving to adulthood: Julia, Joseph, Mary, James, Theodore, Laura, Minnie and Nellie. Eventually moving to Washington State. He was of French Canadian descent and Roman Catholic in faith. Original surname Maille.
