Son of Benjamin and Eliza (Briggs) Remick.

On 29 Nov 1860 John A. Remick, 18, married Mercy Ann Remick, 20, daughter of Alpheus and Mercy (Miller) Remick, at Cumberland, Providence County, Rhode Island. They had four children and later separated.

On 12 Jul 1861 John, a bootmaker, mustered into service with the 15th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, being credited to the quota of Sutton, Massachusetts. He was 18 years and 11 months old.

On 17 Sep 1862 he was wounded at The Battle of Antietam, in the face, shoulder, and breast, and on 29 Jan 1863 he was discharged due to disability.

Before 1870, John moved his family to Minnesota.

John and Mercy Ann Remick appeared on the census of 1895 at Baxter, Lac Qui Parle County, Minnesota, and by 1900 they were divorced.

On 26 Jun 1900 John, 57, married Julia T. Baumgardt, 31, daughter of Fred and Mary Flora (Schladinske) Baumgardt, at Buffalo Township, Buffalo County, Wisconsin.

John and Julia appeared on the census of 19 Jun 1905 at St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota.

John A. Remick died on 11 Apr 1915 at St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota. He was 72 years and 8 months old.
Julia received a pension until 1949 for John's military service.
