Bio: Eugene E. James, age 82, of Hickory, NC, formerly of Dodgeville, died on March 15, 2003 in Hickory. Gene was born on May 4, 1920 in Dodgeville to Elmer and Lela (Fell) James. He entered the U.S. Army in 1941 and served in France during World War II. He was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart. He also took part in the D-Day invasion in Normandy. He married the former Marion Smith in Kenosha in 1963 and she preceded him in death on April 14, 1992. Gene retired from American Motors in Kenosha after many years.

Gene is survived by a son, Jerry (Jan) James of St. Louis, MO; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Christopher; three sisters, Garnetta Hildreth of Dodgeville; Dorothy Schneider of Dubuque and Ruth (Bob) Trowbridge of Dubuque; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was also prceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Allen and John James; brothers-in-law, Ben Hildreth and Howard Schneider and a sister-in-law, Marge James.
