June**—James D. Farmer, 69, of the Perch river
road, died at 4 o'clock Monday
morning at the Mercy hospital,
where be had been under treatment
since Thursday after a heart
attack at his home.
Death, of Mr. Farmer recalls the
murder April 23, 1903, of Mrs. Sarah
Brennan at Paddy Hill, Brownville,
for which Mr. Farmer and
his wife, Mary O'Brien Farmer,
were convicted. Mrs. Farmer was
electrocuted for the crime, being
the second woman to die in the
death house at Auburn. However
he appealed his case and was freed
by the coart of appeals. From the
first he had protested his innocence
in the murder for which his
wife paid the death penalty May
29, 1909.
Mrs. Brennan was killed with an
ax and her body hidden in a trunk.
Mr. Farmer was born in this city,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Farmer,
in his earlier manhood he was a
sailor on the Great 1akes. Later he
worked in a Brownville paper mill.
He was twice married. His first
wife Anna Warren to whom he was
married in 1887 died many years
ago. In 1904 while a sailor he married
in Buffalo Mary O'Brien, a domestic.
He is survived by a son. Peter J.
Farmer, Perch river road; a sister,
Mrs. Anna Dorr, Brownville; and a
stepbrother, Joseph P. Farmer, of
Watertown.
He was a veteran of the Spanish-
American war. He was a member
of the Order of Maccabees, and the
Louis W. Carlisle camp. United Spanish War Veterans
The funeral will be a t 9:30
o'clock Wednesday morning in the
Immaculate Conception church at
Brownville. Burial will be at Glenwood
cemetery. There will be military
honors for him at his grave
by Spanish war veterans.
