Columbia - A graveside service for Doris Neeley Asbill Cloyd, 94, will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday, 6-8 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, and also at the residence following the service. Mrs. Cloyd died Saturday, December 20, 2008. Born in Leesville, she was a daughter of the late John Walter and Annie Neeley Asbill. A graduate of Batesburg-Leesville High School and the University of South Carolina, she was employed by the S.C. Tax Commission for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1984. Mrs. Cloyd was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church and the Louise Munnerlyn Circle. She was Worthy Matron of Shandon Eastern Star P.M. and member of The Settlers Club, American Association of University Women and the Business and Professional Women's Club. Active at the Seniors' Center, she volunteered for many years at the S.C. State Museum. Her family was touched to realize that she had, for many years, been an anonymous supporter of individuals, particularly those from small towns, with unexpected financial needs. She also supported the Salvation Army, being concerned about the "the other fellow." Married for thirty-three years to the late William Joseph Cloyd, she is survived by son and daughter-in-law, John Asbill and Cookie Cloyd; daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Priscilla and David Hinze; grandchildren and their spouses, Elizabeth C. and Kelly Davis, Edward Asbill and Rhetta Cloyd, Keith William and Samantha Hinze, Leanne Christine Hinze and David Watson and Gregory Hopewell and Susan Hinze; great-grandchildren: Haley Adele, Katherine Grace, Holland Elliott and John Hampton Cloyd, Ian, Autumn, Colin, Dylan and Sophia Rose Hinze, and Olivia Isabel Davis. She was predeceased by sisters, Mrs. Ryan Livingston, Mrs. Lyman A. McMillan, Mrs. Robert Sloan and Miss Eleanor and Miss Lurline Asbill. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army, Woodyard Fund, P.O. Box 1333, Columbia, SC 29202; Epworth Early Intervention Center, P.O. Box 50466, Columbia, SC 29250; or to Shandon United Methodist Church, 3407 Devine St., Columbia, SC 29205. © The State, Columbia, SC, 26 Dec 2008
