Duane R. Nelson, 69, of Oak View passed away Aug. 8, 2004, in Ketchikan, Alaska.

March 20, 1935, After his marriage to Hazel in 1954, they moved to California in 1955, settling in Oak View in 1961. He was part owner of Builders Mart with his father and twin brother, Wayne. He was honorary mayor of Oak View in 1971. He was a member of the Ojai Valley Moose Lodge for more than 40 years. He was also a member of the Ventura Elks Lodge and a volunteer fireman for Oak View. Duane was a wonderful and devoted father and grandfather. He loved the outdoors, country music, traveling in his motor home with his wife, and fishing and camping with his family and friends. Duane lived his life to the fullest. He made many lifelong friends and was loved by all who knew him.
Duane is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Hazel Nelson; beloved children, Doug, Bob and his wife, Sylvia, Rick and his wife, Connie, and Sandy and her husband, James Schleicher; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; twin brother, Wayne, and his wife, Marilyn; brother Gary and his wife, Bobbie; sister Judy Tennis and her husband, Gene; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pop and Susie Nelson; sister Marilyn Josephson and her husband, Marvin; and great-grandson, Cody Cain.
