Idaho Governor. In 1907, he graduated from the William Jewell College in Missouri and then taught school. He graduated from the University of Chicago Rush Medical School, in 1917 and interned at Cincinnati General Hospital. During World War I, he served as a First Lieutenant in the Army Medical Corps. After the war, he relocated to Idaho and practiced medicine as a physician. Entering politics, he served as a member of the Idaho State Senate, (1939 to 1947). In 1947, he was elected as a Republican the 22nd Governor of Idaho, serving until 1951. During his term, the old board of pardons was eliminated and in its place the board of corrections was initiated and the liquor-by-the-drink law was enacted. The states' school system was restructured, school districts were consolidated and the Idaho State College at Pocatello became a four-year institution. After leaving office, he was appointed director of the North Idaho District Medical Service Bureau in Lewiston, was as a member of the Idaho State Medical Association and a member of the American Medical Association.
