Mrs. Phoebe D. Alexander of New Hartford - Utica
Mrs. Phoebe D. Alexander, 88, of the Sunset Wood Apts. and formerly of 107 Seward Ave., Utica, passed away Sunday morning, August 17, 2003. She was born May 28, 1915, in West Exeter, NY, the daughter of Morris and Aline Rose Davis. She graduated from West Winfield High School and attended the Utica School of Commerce. For several years, she worked at the Oneida National Bank. On February 2, 1946, she married Howard C. Alexander in Tabernacle Baptist Church. He died in 1996. Mrs. Alexander was a member of Grace Church, Utica, and its St. Agatha's Guild. She was a past president of the Women of Grace, and a longtime member of the Altar Society. She also belonged to the Utica Garden Club. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Aline and Neil Newman of Turin, NY and Katharine and Richard Countryman of Utica and three grandchildren, Matthew and Wade Newman and Benjamin Countryman. She also leaves two nieces and two nephews along with their families and a lifelong friend, Evelyn Hughes of Utica. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Rebecca Ann Countryman, and two brothers, J. Price Davis and Covert W. Davis. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Church with the Rev. James M. Jensen officiating. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the Friedel, Williams, Coriale & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. Friends may consider the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center or a charity of their choice in her memory.
