Russell Clayton Wheeler, 83, of Mt. Alto, passed away June 8, 2010 at Charleston Area Medical Center, General Division, in Charleston following a brief illness.

He was born May 3, 1927 in the Cow Run community, Cottageville, a son of the late Cicero Joseph and Mary Marie (Keefer) Wheeler.

Preceding him in death was his wife of 55 years, Vicy Jane (DeBoard) Wheeler; son Larry Wheeler; brother Claude Wheeler and sister Helen Hoschar Cline.

He retired from Federal Glass in Columbus, OH, as a supervisor and returned home to Jackson County. He and his late wife founded and operated, for more than 30 years, the Crossroads Restaurant (now Hilltop Pizza), in Mt. Alto.

Survivors include his son Steven Wheeler of Columbus, OH; daughters Brenda Whitman of Mt. Alto, Phyllis Bentley and Linda Hunt, both of Columbus, OH; sisters Gladys Wright and Violet Young, both of Barberton, OH; several grandchildren and great grandchildren including Skyler and Jazlyn Skeen of Mt. Alto.

Service will be Saturday, June 12, at 1 p.m. at the Casto Funeral Home in Evans, with Mark Whitman officiating. Burial will follow in the Creston Cemetery.
