United States Consul Henry William Diederich graduated in 1866 from Concordia College in Fort Wayne,Indiana in the Lutheran ministry. He then completed his theological course of study from Concordia Seminary at St. Louis, MO. in 1869. He was the pastor for St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Washington,DC from 1870-1873. He was married on August 23, 1870 to Margaret Stutz, daughter of Frederich and Catherine Stutz. From 1873-1889, he was a professor of literature and English at Concordia College, Fort Wayne Indiana.He was appointed in 1889 by his friend, President Harrison to be United States Consul to Leipzig. In 1897, President McKinley appointed him US Consul to Magdeburg,Prussia and in 1900 he became consul to Bremen, Germany. In 1906, he was appointed Consul-General of the United States at Antwerp, Belgium and was the consul there during World War I. He finished his career as consul to Sarnia, appointed in 1919.
