Amanda Law died at her home near Readsville after ten days of intense suffering. Eight of her eleven children had died before her. During the years her husband had fought in the Civil War, she had cared for them alone.

LAW-Amanda F. beloved wife of Col. G.W. Law, died in Callaway county, Missouri 4 May 1871 in the 41st year of her age. The grief stricken husband returned home from his duties, but received no salutation from the lips that were dearer to him than all earth's treasures.
