Gustav Adolph Rakowsky Jr., 94, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2001, in Chris Jensen Nursing Home.
Born Nov. 7, 1906, in Duluth to Gustav and Anna Rakowsky, Gus worked for the Duluth Board of Education until World War II. During the war years, he worked at Barnes Shipyards. After the war, he founded Highland Sheet Metal and Heating Co. in Duluth Heights. He married Madlyn Mantell in 1928 and she preceded him in death in 1993.
Gus had been a 58-year member of the Masonic Fraternity, Trinity Lodge 282 since 1943. He enjoyed playing cards, dancing and fishing at Shallow Lake in Warba, Minn., with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Gus was preceded in death by his brother, William, and sisters Mayme Powers and Maybelle Carlson.
He is survived by sons Donald (Nancy) of Sarasota, Fla., Robert (Jeannine) of Duluth; daughters Ann Rinehart (Art) of Westminster, Colo., and Alice Perry (Paul) of Richfield, Minn.; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the caregivers on Spruce Lane, Chris Jensen Nursing Home for their patience and loving care of our father and grandfather.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Ave., the Rev. John Sippola officiating. Private burial of the cremated remains in Forest Hill Cemetery.
