John emigrated from Germany, married Margaretha Kaupp in 1875 and was the father of four children: John, Charles L, Louise (Lucy) E, and Susan (Susie). He was Sr. Vice President and Trustee of Prudential Savings Bank of Brooklyn, and was one of the organizers of same, at the time of his death, from injuries after being hit by an automobile at Stuyvesant and Lexington, near the Bank. He died at St. John's hospital. In his will, he left $500.00 each to 4 New York hospitals.
