Patrick Sampier, 100, died peacefully Friday, June 22, 2012, at his daughter and son-in-law's home in Batavia.

Pat was born on April 6, 1912 in Lexington, Oklahoma, the son of Catherine and Patrick Edward Sampier. His father died seven months before he was born and Pat grew up, along with his brother, in a small hotel that his mother owned and operated in Wanette, Oklahoma.

In 1934 Pat married Zella Cornell in Oklahoma City, OK. They enjoyed a wonderful 72 years together until Zella’s death in 2006. They lived in Walla Walla, WA for 61 years prior to moving to Batavia six years ago to live with their daughter, Caroll, and son-in-law, George Harris.

An electrician by training, he retired in 1967 as communication specialist and chief electrical inspector for the city of Walla Walla. During his years in Walla Walla, Pat was closely associated with Goodwill Industries. He was a member of the Board of Directors for 13 years, half of which time he spent as chairman.

After his retirement, Pat and Zella enjoyed many years of traveling in their motor home, fishing, looking for and polishing rocks, and spending time with family and friends. They enjoyed playing cards and did so weekly with one couple for over 60 years.

After moving to Batavia to be with family, Pat enjoyed reading from his large collection of Louis Lamour books, attending church and Senior Adult Bible Study, and he still delighted in visiting with family and friends. He was very social and never met a stranger.
