Margaret was the daughter of Andrew Buchanan and Mary (Broden) McChesney. She attended schools in Latrobe and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and in Racine, Wisconsin where her brother Edward McChesney was a Methodist minister. She lived with her other brothers, Drs. A.C., W.B and J.B. McChesney in Chicago. On a train between Chicago and Latrobe she met Harvey Scott, a customs collector from Portland, Oregon who was on a business trip to Washington, DC. Harvey and his first wife, Elizabeth Nicklin (died January 11, 1875) had three children:

Laurence who died at about two months in 1866
John Harvey (Mary A. McChesney - niece of his step-mother)
Kenneth Nicklin (died age 10)

Harvey and Margaret were married on June 28, 1876 and they had three children:

Leslie McChesney (Elizabeth Coleman)
Ambrose B. (Frances Honeyman)
Judith M. (1 Leroy Fields, 2 William E. Walter)

MRS. SCOTT RITES HELD

Member of Family Pallbearers at Funeral

Funeral services for Mrs. Margaret McChesney Scott, widow of Harvey W. Scott, who died Wednesday at the Portland Surgical hospital, were held yesterday afternoon at Finley’s chapel with the Rev. A. A. Morrison officiating. Commitment services were held at Riverview cemetery, conducted by the Rev. C. O. McCulloch.

The pallbearers, all of whom were members of the family, were Paul R. Kelty of Eugene, Dr. A. B. Eastham of Vancouver, and his son, Willis F. Eastham of Portland, Dr. Kenneth S. Latourette of Oregon City, and Robert Duniway and Sterling McCord of Portland.

Mrs. Nina Dressell Leavy sang two solos during the services, and organ music was by Consuelo Allec.
