Augusta married Carl Magnus Hegberg on 3 December 1898 in Chicago. They had nine children.
Augusta Peterson Hegberg died of pulmonary congestion and Bright's disease just four days after giving birth to her ninth child, Ray Augustus Hegberg in August of 1892.
Ray's father, Carl Magnus Hegberg, was devastated and couldn't handle raising a newborn son on his own along with the the other 8 siblings--who ranged in age from 22 years down to almost 6 years old. (A sad note: Just two years later Carl and Augusta's daughter, Lillian, died at the age of 10.)
Therefore, Augusta's sister, Emma, and Emma's husband, Oscar Blomgren (whom Ray called "Father Blomgren") raised Ray and gave him the Blomgren name as his last name. All of Ray's descendents thus have the surname, "Blomgren" and not "Hegberg" although it is unclear if any formal adoption took place. Ray's father, Carl Magnus Hegberg, lived only a few blocks away from Emma and Oscar, and continued to be very much a part of Ray's life as did all of his brothers and sisters.
When Augusta Peterson Hegberg died she was living at 845 Seminary Ave., Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. Her funeral was held at Swedish Trinity Church at the corner of North Ave. and Seminary, in Chicago.
