Ray Lewis Cordon, 69, of Shiloh died at his home on August 4, 2012.

He was born on December 11, 1942 in Rigby, Idaho, the son of Lewis Omer Cordon and Martha Hortense McLain (née Burlie). He attended Rigby High School, where he played football along with other sports. He served in the United States Air Force for four years before earning bachelor's and master's degrees at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. He joined the faculty at O'Fallon Township High School in 1970 and served as the oral communications teacher and department chair until his retirement in 2003. He was the school's speech and debate coach for many years.

He had an especially great passion for coaching tennis and served as the boys' tennis coach at OTHS from 1984 to 2003. His teams won numerous conference and sectional titles during that time. He stepped away from coaching after his retirement, but the school later invited him back to serve as coach once again, and he remained head coach until his death. Fittingly, he spent the final day of his life coordinating a youth tennis tournament.

He married the former Kim Marlott on October 21, 2000 in Branson, Missouri, and she survives of the home. He is also survived by a son, Matthew C. Cordon and wife, Jennifer, of Hewitt, Texas; a daughter, Heather J. (Cordon) Wilson and husband, Paul, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sister Ruth Kuka and husband, Monte, of Boise, Idaho; sister Martha Lew Smythe of Lafayette, California, and sister Katherine Carr and husband, Gene, of Salt Lake City, Utah. He additionally had four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather Frank Gerard; and half-brother, Kenneth Scurlocki. Memorials in honor of Ray may be made to the family for a Foundation yet to be established. Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.schildknechtfh.com. Memorial visitation will be held Friday, August 10, 2012 from 4-7 pm at Schildknecht Funeral Home and Cremation Services, O'Fallon, IL.
