Clarence Harmon Gilstrap was born October 24, 1881 in Topeka, Kansas (Shawnee County), son of Joseph Gilstrap (1841-1932) and Catherine Cyrena Adams (1849-1918).

In about 1902, Clarence married Nellie Ellen Derby, who was born January 28, 1883 in High Point, Missouri (Moniteau County). Clarence and Nellie had five known children: George William Gilstrap (1904-1996); Ethel Mae Gilstrap (1906- ); Beulah Faye Gilstrap (1908-1982); Eugene Bright Gilstrap (1911-1995); and Esther Ruth Gilstrap (1919-2007).

The 1910 Federal Census for Lockport, Kansas (Haskell County) shows Clarence H. Gilstrap, a farmer, age 29, born in Kansas; and his wife, Nellie, age 27, born in Missouri. Living with them were three children: George W. Gilstrap, age 5; Ethel Gilstrap, age 3; and Beulah Gilstrap, age 1; all born in Kansas.

Nellie died June 3, 1919, leaving Clarence a widower with five children.

Clarence second married Georgia Elizabeth Lea, who was born March 5, 1905 in Lark, Oklahoma (Marshall County), daughter of James Samuel Lea (1873-1947) and Eliza Melvina Lee (1878-1966).

The 1930 Federal Census for Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows Clarence H. Gilstrap, an automobile repair machinist, age 48, born in Kansas; and his wife, Georgia Gilstrap, age 25, born in Oklahoma. Living with them were three children, the eldest from Clarence's former marriage: Eugene B. Gilstrap, age 18, born in Kansas; Waunita Gilstrap, age 5, born in Oklahoma; and Myron L. Gilstrap, age 2 years 1 month, born in Oklahoma. Also living with the family was Clarence's father, Joseph Gilstrap, a widower, age 88, born in Kansas.

The 1940 Federal Census for Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) shows Clarence H. Gilstrap, an automobile mechanic, age 58, born in Kansas; and his wife, Georgia Gilstrap, age 35, born in Oklahoma. Living with them were five children: Waunita Gilstrap, age 15; Myron L. Gilstrap, age 12; Clara Gilstrap, age 9; Wayne Gilstrap, age 5; and Sammie Gilstrap, age 3; all born in Oklahoma.

Clarence died October 19, 1945 in Durant, Oklahoma (Bryan County) and was buried there in the Highland Cemetery. Georgia died January 8, 1976 in Durant and was buried beside her husband.
