Elmer Weisz, 84, Dodge, died peacefully with his family by his side Dec. 30, 2011. Services were Jan. 3 at 10:00 a.m. at Golgotha Lutheran Church, Golden Valley with the Rev. Tom Olson officiating. Burial followed at St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Dodge.
Elmer was born Jan. 3, 1927, on the homestead north of Dodge. He was the youngest of five children born to George Sr. and Carolina (Isaak) Weisz. Elmer was raised and educated north of Dodge. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in May 1945. After basic training at Camp Fannon, near Tyler, Texas, he served as an M.P. at an internment camp near Frankfurt, Germany, through 1946. Elmer was honorably discharged from the Army and returned to the farm north of Dodge.
In 1950, he married Delores Miller. They had a double wedding with Arthur Stuhmiller and Hanna Miller. Their daughter Susan was born in 1961. He and Delores farmed together until her death in May 1992. Ten years later, Elmer married Irene Loeffelbein Aug. 4, 2002 at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Dodge. He retired from farming in 2006.
Elmer served on the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Council, Dodge elevator board and Dodge school board. He was involved in the VFW, American Legion and participated in providing the honor guard. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved music and loved to sing, play guitar, keyboard and harmonica. He enjoyed making music with his step-son-in-law Jeff. They recorded a CD of their favorite songs. He played and sang in church and at the Hazen jam session. He also loved to garden and provided many neighbors with produce. He was an avid reader and acquired a fountain of knowledge with he ability to tell stories. His daughter will especially miss his military stories. He was also and animal lover and had many pets.
