BARTHOLOMEW, ORIE YALE, manufacturer. Born, Elmwood, Ill., April 22, 1865, son of Albertus Y. and Mary E. (Ennis) Bartholomew, who were natives of Illinois and New York.

Mr. Bartholomew received his education in Elmwood, graduating from the High School there, then completing a course at Knox College, Galesburg, Ill. Leaving school he became bookkeeper and office manager of a concern manufacturing peanut roasting and popcorn machines. Then he became a traveling salesman, later the Eastern distributor of the firm, and finally, through purchase, the owner.

This start was in 1888 at Des Moines, la. In 1890 Mr. Bartholomew opened a jobbing office in Philadelphia. In 1893 he purchased the business and returned to Des Moines as manager. After continuing in Des Moines seven years the business was moved to Peoria, Ill., in 1900, the old quarters having been outgrown and there being no available location nearer. At Peoria the enterprise was enlarged to promote the building of the famous "Glide" touring car and Mr. Bartholomew was made treasurer, sales manager and advertising manager. Eight years later Mr. Bartholomew went to Philadelphia and at the close of the war he acquired the roaster department of the organization and removed his plant to Vineland, where he had been residing for several years. In connection with his work, Mr. Bartholomew has traveled extensively and he has built his business to one of international repute. His plant is one of the few and one of the largest of its kind in the United States.

Mr. Bartholomew was married to Mary E. Swan, of Des Moines, Iowa, June 15, 1893, and they had two children, Charles Yale, born May 23, 1894, and Clara Lucille, born January 29, 1903. Mrs. Bartholomew died in December, 1918. Mr. Bartholomew was again married in November, 1921, to Elizabeth Wilson Boody, of Vineland.

During the war Mr. Bartholomew was active in the drives for raising money and in the sale of Liberty Bonds. He is an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and is a Republican in politics. He finds his recreation mostly in automobiling, of which he is very fond.

Mr. Bartholomew is keen in community interest. He is a member of the Vineland Chamber of Commerce; of Charter Oak Lodge, No. 66, Modern Woodmen of America, and of the New Jersey Manufacturers' Association.
