David D. Berens, Manhattan, died Sept. 6, 2009, at a Topeka hospital. He was 63. He was born Sept. 18, 1945, at Colby, the son of Wendell and Ann Weigel Berens. He lived in Wamego for many years before moving to Manhattan five years ago. He attended school in Colby and graduated from Gem High School. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam. He worked as a surveyor and inspector and had retired from Bartlett and West. He married Alice Bieker April 1, 1971, at Topeka. They later divorced. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Eddie Berens. He is survived by four children, Deanna Romine, Lyndon, Michael Berens, Carrollton, Texas, and Matthew Berens and Teresa Berens, both of Manhattan; a brother, Gary Berens, Colby and seven grandchildren. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date.
