June 23, 1932 Spring Valley Sun: Fred Krause was born in Beau, near Osterode, in the province of Konigsberg, Germany, June 14, 1837. In 1865 he married Anna Savatzky.
In 1866 he was a solider in the Austro-Prussian war, and again in 1871 he fought in the Franco-Prussina war, receiving service medals in both conflicts.
Six children were born to them - Adolph, Bertha, Fred, Augusta, Hannah and August. Mr. Krause and Adolph came to America in 1888; after a year her Mr. Krause returned to Germany; only to find his three youngest childre dead from the black plague. In 1890 the whole family came to America, directly to Wisconsin; they lived for two years in Dodge County then came t Rock Elm.
Mrs. Krause died January 5, 1927. Their son Fred died in 1927 at St. Peter, Minnesota. Mr. Krause then made his home with his daughter Bertha until his death Sunday, June 12, 1932; from causes brought on by his advanced age. He lacked just two days of being 95 years old. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and attended its services whenever possible; his Bible was his great comfort and he often read it.
He is survived by his two children: Adolph and Bertha (Mrs. Wesley Condit); of Rock Elm, one brother (WIlliam) of Elmwood; 12 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Rock Elm Methodist Church by the pastor Rev. Samuel G. Beers and the body laid to rest in Poplar Hill Cemetery.
