Vern E. Acridge, 85, of Hastings died Friday, Dec. 12, 2003 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday [16 Dec] at the United Methodist Church in Blue Hill with the Rev. Carroll Plisek officiating. Private family burial will be in Red Cloud Cemetery. Book signing will be 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at Merten-Butler Mortuary in Blue Hill.
Mr. Acridge was born Dec. 12, 1918 to Fredrick L. and Mary (Pyle) Acridge in Bourbon County, Kan. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945. He married Myrtle M. Mayo on Dec. 18, 1942 in Belton, [Bell Co.] Texas. They moved to Blue Hill from Inavale in 1954 and moved to Hastings in 2000. He was a mechanic in Red Cloud, Blue Hill and Hastings, and later worked at Johnson Cashway Lumber in Hastings.
He was a member of the Blue Hill United Methodist Church and a life member of American Legion Shirley Post 176 in Blue Hill and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11 of Salina, Kan.
Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Dorothy Reiber of Campbell and Darlene Buschow of Blue Hill; one brother, Donald of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister, Mary Pitt of Yates Center, Kan.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to Blue Hill United Methodist Church."
