GEORGE T. APOSTOLOU Passed away at his home in Oakland, CA on December 16, 2001. He was 79. Mr. Apostolou was born in Greece, Village of Avoros, region of Roumeli, the 12th of 14 children. George is survived by his dear wife of 43 years Dina. He is also survived by his three loving children and their spouses: Theodore and Evelyn Apostolou, Kathy and Vangeli Stamatis, and Vickie and John Sargetis. Beloved grandchildren George and Sophia Apostolou, Xenophon and Theodore Stamatis, George and Alexandros Sargetis; Three brothers Konstantinos, John and Efthymios and two sisters Vasiliki and Panagiota. Mr. Apostolou will be missed by several cousins, nieces and nephews both here and in Greece. George honorably served and fought from 1946-1951 in the Civil War of Greece against the Communists. Immigrated to the U.S. in 1951, but moved to Oakland in 1953. Owner of Club Olympia, Ellis & Mason, S.F., 1960-1970, Scorpion Restaurant, Oakland, 1971-1976 and Pier 1 Deli, S.F., 1967 to present. Member of the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension; Founder and Past President of the Roumeli Society of the Bay Area; Order of AHEPA; Bay Cities Masonic Lodge #337; Scottish Rite Mason and Shriner. Trisiagon at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19 at Greer Family Mortuary, 2694 Blanding Ave., Alameda, CA. Funeral Services at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 4700 Lincoln Ave., Oakland, CA on Thursday, December 20, at 1:00 p.m. Donations requested to the American Cancer Society. Interment Sacramento, CA.
