MARSHALL, ESTHER M. Mason- Age 76, died late Friday at her residence. A lifelong resident of mid-Michigan, she moved from the family farm at the corner of Moores River Dr. and Waverly Roads. to her childhood home on W. Main St. to attend Lansing schools. The daughter of Aaron and Mary Avery, direct descendants of Lansing's first settlers. Esther graduated from Lansing Central in 1927 and from Lansing Business University. She married Marion H. Marshall in 1931. she worked for the REO Motor Car company and hacker Realty before leaving the business community to raise her family. After moving to Okemos and her son reaching junior high, Esther returned to the work place at Tom O'Brien and Associates as Office Manager until her retirement. She was a lifetime member of Mayflower Congregational Church (UCC) the namesake of the Esther May Circle, a member of the Gideon's, and with her husband served as Charter Treasurer of Camp Barakel in Fairview, Mi. Esther loved to travel and enjoyed family vacations in 45 states, 7 provinces of Canada, and 2 states in Mexico. Marion and Esther frequently traveled to away athletic events including 2 visits with the MSU Spartans to the Rose Bowl. Since retirement, Esther has spent many months at her summer home near Thessalon, Ontario. Esther is survived by her son, Jerry; granddaughter, Terri Louise Marshall; several nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins. Esther is also survived by her special niece, Judy Sumerix and family of Holt; and her dear friend Edna May. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion H. in 1973; her brother, Lansing Paul Cooley, and her sisters, Ada Keller and Empress Menhinick; as well nephews, Richard Cooley and Dennis Marshall. Visitation will begin at Noon Monday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Religious services will be Wednesday at 1:00p.m. at Mayflower Congregational Church (UCC) with interment in Deepdale Memorial park. Mrs. Marshall will Lie-in-State from Noon until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Barakel or Mayflower Congregational church (UCC), 2909 Bellaire Dr. in Lansing.
