ELMER ELFNER, VETERAN, DIES
World War Veteran Is To Be Buried Here Wednesday
Elmer J. Elfner, 34, who served in the merchant marine during the World war and later in the United States cavalry, died Monday at the veterans hospital in Milwaukee. Illness contracted when he saw service in the Hawaiian islands caused his death.
The deceased, a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Elfner of this city, was born in Manitowoc in 1900 and was educated in the schools here.
During the war he served in the merchant marine of the government and in May, 1919, enlisted in the United States army. He was assigned to the 17th U.S. Cavalry regiment which was stationed in the Hawaiian islands. He served until October, 1929.
Survivors are his parents, a sister, Mrs. C. C. McDermand, city, and four brothers, Hugo, Roy, Dewey and Sherburn, all of this city.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. from the Shimek and Schwartz funeral home and at 9 a.m. from the Holy Innocents church. Interment will be at Evergreen cemetery. The body is at the funeral home.
