Karl was born in the Town of How, Oconto, Wisconsin. He was baptized on 08 May 1927 at Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Suring (Hayes), Oconto, Wisconsin and confirmed there on 11May 1941. He was a graduate of Suring High School.

Karl and Vila met at St. John Lutheran Church, Hayes, WI. Karl was trained in welding after highschool, but did not like the indoor work. After marriage, 20 Sept 1952, he and Vila rented a dairy farm from Ewald Schuettpelz on Hill Road, RR Suring which they then purchased in 1959. Here, they successfully farmed and kept abreast of and practiced new farming techniques as they became known.
Karl served on the Town of How Board and was a member of ASC (Agricultural Stabilization Conservation) He was their Zoning Administrator. He kept up his German conversational skills by speaking with his mother in German. For many years he suffered heart problems and in January 1983 he underwent unique diseased aorta valve replacement surgery at Appleton Memorial Hospital. He returned home a few months later and died of complications at Shawano Memorial Hospital.
